Apartment Block Marousi, Athens

A . A _ AMARYSION ARABESQUE

The project translates urban planning constraints into a free-standing residential building lifted on pilotis, allowing the ground level to remain open and permeable. Eight apartments are organized vertically across five levels, structured along a diagonal northeast–southwest axis. The design is driven by the pursuit of optimal natural lighting and strong indoor–outdoor continuity. Living spaces extend into balconies and semi-open areas, shaping a compact yet porous volume that appears to float above the open ground floor. Curved balconies, recessed outdoor spaces and pergolas soften the otherwise orthogonal mass, defining a distinctive architectural expression, while at the northwest edge of the site, a circular swimming pool is introduced, reinforcing the project’s overall organic approach. This shallow, shared pool is oriented to capture the warm tones of the western light, becoming an integral part of the landscape composition and outdoor living experience. The façades are conceived as a unified and dynamic composition in earthy tones, in close dialogue with the surrounding vegetation. A uniform light brown plaster emphasizes the clarity of the form and highlights its geometry, while aluminium and steel frames in warm grey tones provide a consistent material language. The architecture unfolds as a series of solid, sculpted volumes within the landscape — grounded and monolithic, yet softened by light, shadow and color.
