Minion's New Façade Athens

Invited Competition

The proposal is a network. The restored department store of MINION will occupy an entire building block in downtown Athens. The superimposed network offers to the existing shell what it does not possess: Light, transparency, movement. A luminous aluminium net moves around the building with the greatest tension at the corner of Satovrianou - Patission, right above the main entrance. At the opposite corner of Patision street, the net ascends to the roof, creating a shelter that hosts a large café-bar, on a unique terrace -with stunning views of Lycabettus and Acropolis. The proposal culminates in the inner atrium, where the net is now weaving in a sculptural manner a bright, delicate ‘cocoon’, visible from all levels, right in front of the escalators. By receiving light this net transforms the building's façades: both during daytime and after dawn.
