Ulysses Museum Attica

Odysseus or Ulysses: A mythical name defines the new Museum. Its symbolic force anticipates to resonate on the splendor of a new landmark. It aims at establishing a relationship, of not just observing the sea and its world, but of an essential immersion to it. Omicron: a letter, a circle, the beginning and the end - the journey. The relationship of the Greeks with the sea is manifold, long-term, impetuous. Sometimes feverish or combative and sometimes productive or invigorating. Experienced on its extensive coastlines, or in the middle of it. Ceaselessly, as a daily confrontation or periodically, as a summer relaxation. Serene, crystal clear sea, or turbulent, endless sea: hOmeric.

The hybrid conception of the building requires two elements in entanglement, born from within: The circle and the line. At times intersecting, overlapping, or clearly defined. With one penetrating into the other, giving birth to the next and separating from the previous. The line bends, ruptures, curves, allowing for the sea to effuse to the new building. Respectively, the circle, maintaining its self-referentiality, rests on the regenerated ground, softening its strict geometry, while eroded sculpturally by their joint. Circular course, white ring, earthy, dark, rocky base. The museum emerges from the Sea and its terrestrial crust. Detached now, it stands anchored on the ground that created it.
